Re: The Friends of Lin DeVecchio Trust
Gentlemen:
On behalf of Lin, I would like to thank you for the tremendous showing that you and all of his supporters made on his behalf at the arraignment before Justice Reichbach last week. I was not only struck by the number of people who made it to the proceeding, but also by the dignity and sincerity that all of you brought to the courtroom. I was proud to see the five men who stood up together and who eventually co-signed the recognizance bond.
None of this was lost on a judge who, in my view, made a fair decision to release Lin in large part because of the respect that he has for all of you and the work you have done for your country. I was surprised, however, by the prosecutor who told the court: "I tell you, Your Honor, that the assembled FBI agents are here to provide a network to allow this individual to leave this country; that is what they are here for." Needless to say, these comments did not affect the judge's ultimate decision, but they did say something about the attitude that germinated the baseless prosecution.
Your support has given Lin, and all of his lawyers, the strength to fight this unjust effort.
Very truly yours,
Douglas E. Grover |
